Dana and Jon || Edmonton Wedding Photography

Dana and Jon are a fun-loving couple who are always smiling! We first met Dana and Jon in the winter of 2009 to talk about photography services for their wedding and we clicked! They ended up booking us on the spot (Sweet! Thanks guys). As their day approached we met again to check out their ceremony venue at the beautiful Emily Murphy Park. We could tell the excitement was mounting and they were ready for their day! On the day of the wedding, Jon and the guys were pretty relaxed, watching a movie and hanging out in Beaumont, AB. The groomsmen decided to amp up the excitement by sending a joking message to the bridal party that Jon was so nervous he had already mowed the lawn twice and had begun a third round! The girls, of course, giggled although I’m not sure they were convinced the joke was true. We arrived at Emily Murphy Park before the Bride arrived and had plenty of time to set up and take a few shots of Jon before the ceremony. When Dana showed up the ceremony began. Jon was standing waiting for his beautiful bride with an enormous grin as Dana had an emotional walk down the aisle with her Mom. After the ceremony had finished we started off the formals with a fun, “let loose” activity for the bridal party and then got right into the swing of things. It was a blast!

While the girls were preping, the flower girl was preping her basket full of petals. It’s really sad to know that she was so nervous walking down the aisle that she forgot to leave any petals behind.

Shaina and Chris are a lovely couple planning an October wedding with a reception at the Hotel Macdonald. Beautiful! . We had a really fun time with them and Bear (their cute little pooch). We hung out at the University and spent a little time at the Sugar Bowl (yumm!!) just down the road from the high level diner and red bike. We love the excitement of weddings and we can’t wait to spend some more time with these two.

Chris had this sucker custom made for her, gorgeous!

Mielke Family || Edmonton Family Photographer

The Mielke family is moving to a new home so they hired us to take some photos of the girls and the house where they were born. We had the fabulous opportunity a to spend a late, lazy afternoon with the Mielke family playing in the park, planting flowers on the beach (Lake Summerside) and hanging out at their home before they made the big move. These kids are adorable and giggly as heck! We had a blast with these guys. Thanks to the Mielke family for choosing to spend some time with us.

Andy and Lindsey || Edmonton Weddings

This Saturday I was invited out to be a ”second shooter” at wedding photographed by the fabulous Erik Hornung. It was a really fun day hanging out with Erik while photographing Andy and Lindsey’s special day. I started out with the groom and the groomsmen in the morning and from the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left at the end of the night everyone was having fun and partying hard! Thanks to Erik for having me along.

The Martha Stewart Show || Edmonton Photographers in New York City

To preface this blog post our readers should know how crazily addicted to the `Martha Stewart Life`my lovely wife is and how devastated she was when our Tivo staple, `The Martha Stewart Show`, stopped airing in Canada. (As a side note, the first person to airmail the 2010 episodes to our home will earn a free photoshoot!!) Anyways, on with the post. As soon as we finalized our vacation dates and booked the flight Sam kept and eagle eye on the Martha Stewart website ready and waiting for ticket requests for our dates to become available. As soon as our dates appeared she applied for tickets and crossed her fingers. Finally, a few weeks before we left her wish was granted and e-mail conformation was sent (the anticipation was almost as good as the show itself!). Without further ado here’s what it’s like to be a audience member at the Martha Stewart Show. To start, the e-mail conformation was very wardrobe specific (jewel tones look best on camera). So after dressing in our Sunday best and walking to and from the subway in our best blister giving shoes we were admitted to the very fancy waiting area. After signing a waiver to give them the right to use our images we were allowed into the beautiful studio…it`s every bit as nice as on TV although a little smaller in real life. The day we attended happened to be April Fools day and they had a perfect Robert DeNiro impersonator featured on the show. I WAS TOTALLY FOOLED! Sam and Kirsten knew right away (or so they said) but I had no idea and I even insisted it was the real guy long after everyone was giggling and in on the joke (how embarassing)! Martha also showed us how to make faux bois (fake wood) cookies and had geusts from `The Onion` in to tell odd jokes. Joey (the warm-up professional) spent much of the show directing the audeince to clap/cheer and fade in and out just as you would expect to hear when watching the show from home. During the commercial breaks he ran around giving away free gifts! After the show Martha answered a few questions from the audeince, she was naturally very polite and helpful. It really surprised me how everything was so well organized (typical Martha I`m told) and despite the number of camera crew, directors, make-up personel, prep chefs and guests everything went off without a hitch! The whole thing ended with a walk through Martha’s gift shop and a tote bag full of free gifts as we walked back out into the streets of Manhattan. What a great day! The blisters were totally worth it!

Seanmichael and Damien || Edmonton Portrait Photographer in New York City

While we were on vacation in New York City we had the opportunity to photograph Seanmichael and Damien. These two were married just before we arrived in New York and still had that newlywed spark. When they showed up we asked about their wedding. It sounded like a beautiful wedding and a very special day for them both. Much to their surprise their wedding is posted all over the internet! Something that neither of them expected. So naturally, I googled them. I found the video below on you tube which captures their personalities and their love for one another more perfectly than I ever could. I highly recommend you watch it. They are a completely lovely couple and are strong advocates for equal rights. They are even starting an equality based television on network in the US and (fingers crossed) we can expect it to come to Canada within a year or so. Brandi and Lyra ||Edmonton High School Portrait Photographer

Recently we had the opportunity to hang out with Brandi and Lyra again and to take some more photos. We always have a really good time with these two and once again Brandi and Lyra came prepared to do anything! They were also forced to brave the cold for a long, long time (sorry again ladies). This will be our last post until our photos from New York City are revealed (next week sometime).
